Wisair (WI)

Short description

Wisair is a fables semiconductor SME company providing Ultra Wideband (UWB) and wireless USB chipset solutions to enable low cost, low power, and high-bit-rate applications for personal computing, consumer electronics, and mobile devices. As a technology leader in the UWB arena, Wisair is member in the WiMedia Alliance, and an active participant in the IEEE standardization process and the Wireless USB Promoters Group. With several decades of combined experience in the wireless industry, Wisair provides an unmatched technical excellence and expertise.

Wisair‘s UWB experience begins in the 90s, when several complete UWB communication systems were implemented by Wisair team members at the Israeli Research & Development Centre. Holding key positions at DSP Communications (acquired in 1999 by Intel), Wisair’s core team has further gained a rich experience in wireless communications, indoor propagation and chipset implementation.

The Wisair team holds multiple Ultra Wideband patents, and has been dedicated since 2001 to provide complete interoperable Ultra Wideband and wireless USB solutions that answer real-life needs.

Wisair was one of the founding key members of the WiMedia/MBOA alliance, an industry group dedicated to creating a pervasive wireless multimedia networking solution for PC, CE and mobile devices based on UWB technology. In addition, Wisair is an active participant in the IEEE standardization process and a member in the Wireless USB Promoters Group.

Wisair’s believe the target of UROOF of extending UWB range using low cost optical elements is very promising for the UWB industry. UWB has huge potential due to its promise for high data rate but the limited range, limits its use to specific applications. Range extension will open a wide range of new application including full house and SOHO (small office / home office) coverage using optical media with complete mobility for the end user with over the RF media.

Gadi Shor received both his MSc degree in EE with emphasis on communication on 1995 and his BSc degree in EE on 1990 from TAU. Gadi holds the CTO position in Wisair. Before joining Wisair, he worked for DSPC technology. He managed a multi-disciplinary, multi-national team through the development of a W-CDMA reference design handset based on in-house chipset development. Prior to this, he worked for DSPC Systems (Formerly CTP Systems) holding the CTO position. He supported research, regulation and standardization activities for the development of WPBX systems based on proprietary US-PCS/ISM standards and DECT standard. Gadi worked as a System Engineer in the IDF R&D Centre, designing and implementing practical wireless communication systems, including high-bit-rate UWB systems. He has over ten years of hands-on experience in research, simulation and implementation of wireless modems (radio, modulation, coding, channel estimation, synchronization), protocol stacks (DECT, TDMA, CDMA, W-CDMA) and system aspects of wireless communication systems (indoor propagation, radio resource management, QoS, capacity and more). Gadi was the project manager of ULTRAWAVES (IST FP5 UWB project) and participate in PULSERS (IST FP6 UWB integrated project).
